Media Marketing Think Tank Session: Personal Notes From My Desk
Recently I have been speaking with various small businesses about building a digital presence on the internet and various “social networking sites.”
Every time the topic of blog, video etc is discussed, I noticed a glazed look come over many of the client’s faces or “I don’t have the time to do that look.”
Technology has made leaps and bounds since the early 2000s, maybe it is time to change the names or labels of the blog – which came from weblog.
There seems to be a stigma attached to these 90s-early 2000 terms – it’s 2016 – the net has evolved since then…we don’t even use weblog anymore.
I didn’t know what a weblog or blogging was in 2003 – at the time someone said that I was blogging. What is blogging?
Guess that was the only name for it at the time, but I was not technically blogging or journaling. I was just putting video links on a webpage in 2000. Which drove free traffic to my page – unintentionally. It just had interesting links. Too bad I did not put google ads on the page to monetize the site.
Thank goodness for youtube – I was able to embed videos and begin media marketing – which is the term I use.
There are so many videos on the internet – youtube and vimeo and other video sharing sites do a great job at categorizing the videos. I think there
is a big opportunity for a blogger or internet marketer to monetize the organization of videos online. Yes, there are a few sites or membership sites
where marketers are leveraging a collection of videos – but I think this can be done with an ad driven or affiliate based sites. Like the one I am
using at present.
What to watch for in 2016 evolution of Old School New Media into New Media School of Thought.
